What a wonderful opportunity to indulge in combined passions! Digging the garden, drawing plants and persuading designs onto glass. Preparing for “Art Inspired by Gardens” has been love of labour. Sally Scott is a painter, lithographer and architectural glass engraver. The freedom of painting and the joy of colour are a perfect contrast to the rigorous discipline required in her glasswork. Her paintings celebrate the beauty and colour that she finds from a large landscape to a single flower. Underlying all her work in whatever medium is a love of, and commitment to drawing. Art Inspired by Gardens Exhibitor Richard Hayward

Sculptor Richard Hayward carves directly into wood and stone, producing pieces that are suitable for indoor display as well as stone sculptures to be placed in a garden setting. His sculptures are inspired by his observations of the inhabitants of the garden and their activities. He carves mainly English woods and English and French limestone, aiming to create a fusion between an imaginative idea and the inherent characteristics of the organic materials. The Icing on the Cake

Last weekend, one of our brides received not only a beautifully crafted wedding cake but also such a lovely surprise, she burst into tears! The cake wasn’t made by a professional pastry chef but by her mother who had never made a wedding cake before. The mother of the bride had spent weeks before the wedding teaching herself to not only perfectly ice a cake but also to make all of the sugar flowers and lace decoration surrounding each layer. Practice certainly made perfect, as the end result was stunning.

Art Inspired By Gardens Exhibitior Alison Ellen

From 2nd to 5th October, Bury Court Barn will host the “Art Inspired by Gardens” exhibition, which will showcase the work of seven artists/craftsmen who take their inspiration from gardens and translate their ideas in a variety of media. Alison Ellen designs and produces hand-knitted clothing, dyeing her yarns for added colour and pattern. Her inspiration is often taken from colours formed by plant textures, layering to give rich, varied, subtle effects.
