The Dancing Monks of Majuli

On Wednesday, 13th July, The Barn at Bury Court was thrilled to welcome The Monks of Majuli, who come from a beautifual monastery on the island of Majuli in the Brahmaputra River, N.E. India and worship Krishna through music and dance. For over 600 years, they have cultivated a form of dance-drama known as Sattriya that is still thriving today. April Plantsman’s Day

The first Plantsman’s Day of the year took place yesterday, run by Marina Christopher from Phoenix Perennial Plants. It was a beautifully sunny Spring day sandwiched between two days of rain, which was a relief as about 30 people came to look around the gardens at Bury Court and enjoy lunch in the Barn tea room. The theme for April’s late morning talk was “Poppies – delicate, colourful additions to the summer garden”. Wedding Extravaganza 2014

In February, The Barn at Bury Court hosted its annual Wedding Extravaganza. The event showcased 37 local businesses, offering wedding services including beauty, photography, cakes and catering, cars and entertainment. Existing suppliers attended as well as some new contacts The Barn is pleased to support. Despite the weather, with the never ending rain and flooding in the area, the event was a huge success with well over a three hundred people attending, including 134 brides. A Baroque Trio From Bury Court Opera

The end of February brought Bury Court Opera’s annual festival. This year, the Barn was the setting for a trio of operas, with Henry Purcell’s “The Fairy Queen”, Henry Fielding’s “The Lottery” and “Too Hot to Handel” all a huge success. “The Fairy Queen”, with music performed by The Southbank Sinfonia and directed by Simon Over, is loosely related to Shakespeare’s play, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream“. Westlife Singer Comes to Bury Court

In the Autumn, Bury Court was used for another location shoot, this time in the music video for the ex Westlife singer, Shane Filan’s single, “Knee Deep in My Heart”. In the video, Shane performs at a wedding reception being held in The Barn. Whilst the whole wedding was staged for the video, Bury Court is a beautiful spot for a country wedding.
